Once upon a time there lived a poor farmer in a village. He had a goose. It used to lay a golden egg every day. The farmer sold them in the local market and within a short time he became quite solvent. But his wife was very greedy. She always hunted for money. She wanted to be very rich overnight. She thought the stomach of the goose was full of eggs. If she could get all the eggs at a time, she would be rich very quickly. So, there is no use of getting one egg a day- she thought herself. One day she expressed her thinking to her husband and suggested him to cut the belly of the goose. But the farmer was very wise and intelligent. He did not agree with her proposal. At last the wife of the farmer hit upon a plan to get all the eggs. One day when the farmer went to the field, she took a sharp knife and cut the belly of the goose. But alas! There was no egg in the belly. Returning home, the farmer found the goose dead. He rebuked his wife for her extreme greed. Then they led there life with great hardship. The wife of the farmer could realize her fault and understood that she had brought the misfortune to their family. Then they both began to work hard and pass their life greed-less.
